The Upper Hickory Nut Gorge Community Center is gathering place for all of Gerton hosts local plays, classes, meetings, pot luck suppers, and parties throughout the year.

In Asheville, Hendersonville, Black Mountain and Lake Lure one can find an amazing variety art, music, dining, and entertainment opportunities. Higher education, excellent healthcare and a local airport are also available.

These North Carolina mountains are the oldest and some of the most beautiful and magical mountains in the world. They are abundantly rich in diverse plant and animal life and contain many pristine streams and waterfalls. Sheer rocky cliffs and expansive vistas offer wonderful views. The climate is very mild in all four seasons, never too hot or too cold. While we get to enjoy occasional snows in winter, it melts off within days. And air conditioning is rarely needed in the summer at this elevation. Beautiful spring flowers and fall leaves offer a vibrant pallet of colors for residents and visitors to marvel at. In our opinion, there is no better place to live than in the mountains of North Carolina, no better city than Asheville to live close to, no better secret valley than Hickory Nut Gorge, and no better eco-community than Hickory Nut Forest!
